The incompetence of this front office is reaching peak levels of embarrassment. I should have known better—it’s a Reinsdorf-run franchise—but wow. Did anyone have trade Zach LaVine, keep everyone else, and extend Lonzo Ball on their bingo card? I mean… What. The. Fuck. What is this guy doing? Artūras Karnišovas got this job because he drafted Nikola Jokić during a Taco Bell commercial.
Following the move earlier this week, in which the Bulls traded Zach LaVine for three bums, lifted protections off their first-round pick, and ultimately gained salary relief, I was confident AK would have the wherewithal to realize that the mission is to start losing games. You do that by selling off your best players who are overperforming. There wasn’t one deal for Nikola Vučević from anyone?! Bullshit. This reeks of the Alex Caruso drama from last year, where we’ll trade him in the offseason for the Porter brother that bets on games.
Everything this front office does is half-assed. For years, they just needed to add some perimeter shooting and neglected to do so. They’ve had chances to go all in or get out, and they’ve chosen the play-in year after year for a chance. This is not the MLB postseason. You get dusted if you have a worse team than the elites. This is a first or last business. You need stars to compete in the NBA.
I don’t know why they didn’t sell off Coby and/or Ayo, Vooch, or any of the three bums from the LaVine deal. The ultimate head-scratcher. This guy wants the 8–11 pick so badly. Somehow, Gar Forman and John Paxson left their front office playbook on AK’s desk, and he’s following it to a tee. Call me crazy, but… are Artūras Karnišovas and Marc Eversley worse? That’s where we’re at. That’s how dysfunctional we look.
No, this is not an overreaction. This is an embarrassment. The one guy in this city who actually watches the games on TV is complaining that we didn’t get substantially worse. I’m the guy who hates tanking, who always wants my team to win, but this could not have been a more obvious you need to sell the farm situation.
Directionless owner. Directionless front office. No hope for things to turn around anytime soon.
