Yesterday, Sunday the 2nd, I decided, as hungover as I was, that I would attend Sunday Mass with my fiancée. You know, she’s converting to Catholicism so we can get married in a Catholic Church, so I probably should hop back on that horse on a more consistent basis. One hour too. Just one hour!
During that hour, the Chicago Bulls traded Zach LaVine… What are the odds? This was a three-team deal with the Spurs, Kings, and Bulls that happened the same day as Luka Dončić getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis (!!!). Lots of thoughts, but I’ll try not to ramble and be as concise as I possibly can.
The Chicago Bulls are headed to war. Pew-pew! Matas Buzelis, Jevon Carter, and Jalen Smith are all inside a tank like it’s Fury Road. That’s what this is about, everyone. When I got out of Mass, I received numerous messages from friends and family, all asking me what the Bulls are doing like I am a part of the organization.
My take on this is a bit different from most. Yes, you could get something better for Zach LaVine than Zach Collins (bum), Kevin Huerter (bum), and Tre Jones (bum). But ask yourself: How do you lose games? The answer is you have a team of bums. I have been clamoring for this to be fully torn down for a while now. It’s obvious you are not contending in the East.
I thought maybe AK didn’t realize how obvious that was when he traded Alex Caruso for no picks and instead a pending restricted free agent in Josh Giddey. I think he gets it now. You have to strip talent from this roster, or else we will be stuck contending for the 9th and 10th seed every goddamn year until I’m in a home.
My first question when I saw this was: How the fuck do those three bums add up to $45 million? Truly sickening what NBA players make these days, but I’ll get off my front porch. Ultimately, this is massive cap relief, and you don’t owe someone $50+ million after next season (when you actually might be turning things around).

Secondly, you received your own pick back, which people are totally scoffing at. This year, that pick is top-10 protected. If we land outside of the top 10 in this draft, I’d kill myself first and foremost, but also, we would be giving the Spurs the pick in a loaded draft class. Now that we traded LaVine away, we should start losing more (fuck my over 29.5 wins bet—I really thought AK was bad enough to get us there).
This is a loaded draft class, and next year’s draft class is supposedly just as good. If we got our pick this year, then next year that pick would have only been protected to the top 8, meaning a potential No. 9 prospect could have gone to the Spurs. That is big. Maybe not big, but, I mean, it’s something, ya know?

The time to LOSE is Now (shoutout MichiganMan and John Cena getting tossed in Saturday night’s Royal Rumble). It sucks, but I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. Aren’t I the only person that watches this team? No one was actually watching games this year. Fat chance anyone signed up for that loser network.
All five Chicago sports teams are in offseason mode right now at the same time. Often, we fans are in offseason mode, but to have each Chicago team in the offseason while two are still playing is crazy. Seven days until pitchers and catchers report.
Cubs, save us all!
