Celebrate Good Times – Bears are 1-0 in 2025

It is January 7th, 2025. The Bears ended the season at 5-12, got meme’d on constantly, and were the only team in our division to miss the playoffs…. but I’m happy? We own the Packers right now. I’m not gonna talk about the clown show that 2024 was from January through December because who gives a shit about last year anyways? Were we worried about the JF1-led Bears’ 4-13 season once it became 2024? Exactly – we were worried about the year to come and that’s where we’re at now but with a considerably better QB.

Honestly, I don’t think people realize how big that win for this team was and that now all that matters is what has happened in 2025. For the moment the division looks like this:

  1. Lions (1-0)
  2. Bears (1-0)
  3. Vikings (0-1) ((and a potential QB controversy/issue in the near future))
  4. Packers (0-1) ((dead & call us daddy now)) (((seriously how awesome did those tears taste on Sunday?))) ((((I thought they tasted really good))))

The boys played with heart FINALLY and FINALLY helped Caleb to secure his first game-winning drive (should have had like 5, but George wanted to keep Flus and honestly how bad is that in hindsight if we end up landing Ben Johnson?). This past year was all kinds of not fun from a Bears fan’s perspective, but we’re undefeated in 2025 and it was in Lambeau to boot! Caleb has welcomed the pressure and expectations better than any QB we’ve seen on our team maybe ever, and as my good friend King Yabo loves to remind us: Winning. Solves. Everything.

To end the season on an 11 game skid and give Jordan Love and his butt-kissers even an ounce of validation for him having the 2nd biggest contract by yearly average in NFL history would have been catastrophic (yeah I know he left with injury, I don’t care). Our Bears would have entered the 2025 season with it’s last taste of victory coming from outside the US against the Jags on 10/13/24. Could you imagine listening to every media outlet and Packers fan pointing that out until we won a game next year? Doesn’t matter – we don’t have to imagine because that is not the reality in which we live.

Our guys get to take a much needed (notice I didn’t say deserved because I still have standards) break and get to do so with the understanding that the season was shit, but with the positive emotions of knowing they were the group that got the fucking gorilla of a monkey off our backs by besting the Packers for the first time in the Lafleur era (2019-) and for the first time at Lambeau since 2015. No, the lack of wins in that timeframe weren’t this current team’s fault, but the pressure and frustrations from us fans gets put on whoever is out there representing our city. These guys went out like heroes with that rollercoaster final 2 minutes of the season, and just like that, we were finally happy!

There is too much doom and gloom amongst our fans, and even though we have the right to feel the existential dread that accompanies Bears fandom, maybe it’d be good for us to let ourselves be happy just for a bit to start this year off in a better place mentally than this season allowed us the past 4 months.

Enjoy the playoffs and enjoy the Packers tears we get to drink again when they lose in the near future and stay stuck at the bottom of the 2025 divisional standings. DON’T freak out about every coaching update report that comes out and especially don’t convince yourself it’s time to start praying for Mike McCarthy (like our good friend Wydo is doing right now???). DON’T worry about the fact that we have the 2nd hardest schedule on paper heading into next season. I’ll find a way to get us on board with double-digit wins expectation once the official schedules are released, don’t you worry.

We went on the road and beat the Packers in exciting fashion to start 2025 and if recent memory serves right, that’s the best ending we’ve had in a long while (rooting for the #1 pick doesn’t count, but still shoutout Lovie we love you so much). Personally, I’m gonna watch how this next month and half unfolds and choose to believe that regardless of which of our coveted coaching choices ends up at the helm, the OL can only improve, the coaching (even if we “get it wrong”) SHOULD only be able to improve, and Caleb is entering year 2 where we know QBs typically see substantial improvement (Lamar and Mahomes both won their first MVP in year 2). Side note: if anyone had “but what about CJ Stroud” pop into their head – dismiss that thought, he was largely the same player this year without as many lucky bounces as he got last year and Caleb outperformed him.

Celebrate these good times, the pain of this season is over, the Packers are losers, Caleb is our Quarterback and I wouldn’t trade him for any of the others in his class. Bear Down, Chicago – we ended on a positive note.

P.S. If anyone is looking for college basketball rooting interest, The Alabama Crimson Tide are a fun bunch to watch play. Just utter chaos. Investment advice: lock in a little sprinkle on that Bama future (I am not a financial advisor). More on the Tide to come.
