Someday we’ll go all the wayyyy… Yeahhh!!! Someday we’ll go all the way. Well, we did, and that was all Mr. Ricketts needed to capture his monopoly on Wrigleyville and Cubs fans around the world who have been through enough. Theo left the organization after going all in for a few years post-’16 ship and handed Jed a dump. I was all in on trading the core and backed Jed throughout it all.
Now we are at a do-or-die moment in Cubs history. This is your last year, Jed. I swear to fucking God, if all we do is replace Belli with Kyle Tucker and add Matthew Boyd and a couple of fillers, I’ll be irate. I’m aware of the slow-paced offseason, but for every Corbin Burnes that gets big contracts from the Arizona Diamondbacks, that market starts to wash up. You put yourself in this position by taking your foot off the gas.
After the report of Jed Hoyer being in “fuck it mode” a few weeks ago, he sold off Cody Bellinger (fine) and added Vidal Brujan, squirming like a little kid when asked if he made a presentation to Roki Sasaki at his presser. If we get Roki, I think this will be an incredible offseason for the Cubbies—granted they get another trustable bullpen arm and a guy to give Shaw competition at 3rd out of camp.
How do I think it will go? They maybe get a banged-up younger pitcher who has all the stuff to be good but hasn’t proved it, hoping Jed can look like a genius because he lives for that look. Hopefully, whoever they get to fill out this roster outperforms their beloved expectations… or, you know… you get a team that can win 90 games if they all play to their projections… maybe?
